Riverton Arts Center is a working building. On any given evening there are wheels turning in the ceramics studio, a press being inked upstairs, and somebody in the darkroom who has lost track of the time.
We have been here fifty years. In that time we have taught several thousand people to throw a pot, pull a print, develop a roll of film or simply sit in a room with other people and draw. Most of them had never made anything before. That is the whole idea.
What's on
Exhibitions change six times a year and most things are free to walk into. The building is open Tuesday to Saturday.

Learn something you can't undo
Our classes run in terms of six or eight weeks, in the evenings and on Saturday mornings. Ceramics fills first and always has. Printmaking, drawing, photography and the children's classes usually have room a week before they start.
You do not need to be any good. Nobody who works here was, to begin with.
Come and look round first
If you are weighing up a class, the most useful thing is forty-five minutes walking through the place while it is being used — the wheel room, the print bench, the darkroom, and the kiln yard if the weather is behaving. It's free, and children are welcome if they're happy to walk.
From the shop
Work by the people who teach here and by the students who have outgrown the shelf at home. Everything is made in this building, and the studio takes nothing from a sale.

The kiln appeal
Our big gas kiln is twenty-six years old and down to one working burner. When it finally goes, the ceramics studio stops — classes, open studio, the lot. We are raising for a replacement.
Around the building
The kiln is on its last burner
Two of three burners have failed and the parts are out of production. What a replacement costs, and what happens to the ceramics studio if we don't get one.
Spring term enrolment opens on the 12th
Opens 10am on Monday the 12th. Wheel throwing fills in about two hours; everything else is calmer than that. Two new short courses this term.
Clay Bodies opens this week
Thirty-one pieces from this year's wheel classes, hung deliberately without separating the students from the staff. You will guess wrong.
Visiting
Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm. Galleries are free. The cafe is open the same hours and does a very good sausage roll.
There is parking behind the building off the river road, and the number 4 bus stops outside. The whole ground floor is step-free; the darkroom and the upper gallery are reached by stairs, and we will happily arrange to show you anything up there at ground level.
